Deep breath… want to know a secret? 🤫 15 yea Deep breath… want to know a secret? 🤫 15 years ago, we were penniless pub singers, gigging our way through life one wedding and working men’s club at a time 😩 Fast forward to today and we’re the proud owners of an award-winning, pooch-prioritising holiday haven in the heart of Wales. I’m told followers love the story behind a small business success so… I’m Nikki — the (slightly bonkers) dog mum behind the socials — and alongside my long suffering husband Jay, we built Brechfa Forest Barns from the ground up. Back then, we couldn’t find the kind of truly dog-welcoming holiday we longed for… so we created it. With no money, no experience, just big dreams and even bigger determination. They ran wild, soaked up sea air, and sniffed everything in sight 😃 They were joined by Cooper & Frank — their best pals from next door in The Hay Barn — and together, they made memories to last a lifetime. Thanks to their hoomans here are the photos to prove it 📸 Rescue dogs can have happy endings. And here, they also get the holiday they deserve. We welcome unlimited dogs of all breeds — reactive, rescued, old, young, or just a little misunderstood. Because every dog deserves to feel this free. Each one has a past… and now, a place where they’re truly home. . Hux was taken to be put to sleep at just 10 months old. Luckily, wonderful Jo was the nearest Beagle Welfare fosterer. He’s now nearly 9 — living proof of how love (and a bit of space to sniff!) can change everything ❤️🐾 . Ollie spent 7 years in a lab in Spain. 18 months ago, he came to Jo — and every day, this brave boy takes one more step into the sunshine. He’s learning to trust again, at his own pace ❤️🐾 . Nellie came from a puppy farm and had never known kindness. She’s been with Jo for 7 months, and is slowly discovering how good life can be when you’re safe, respected, and free to roam ❤️🐾 . Dora was no longer wanted by her breeder. Just 4 years old and already discarded. But in Jo’s care she’s blossoming into her true self, tail up and ears flying ❤️🐾 . ❓Have you rescued a dog or dogs? Every year, these incredible birds return from Central Africa to breed here in the UK, and we’re lucky to hear them (and sometimes spot them!) right here at Brechfa Forest Barns. Their haunting call is one of the true sounds of spring – and you can hear it now. A few fascinating cuckoo facts: 🪺 They’re master mimics and don’t build their own nests — instead, they lay their eggs in other birds’ nests. I know, not good 🫣 Brechfa Forest’s mix of open woodland and moorland makes it ideal cuckoo country. With numbers in decline across the UK, we’re proud to be a regular stop on their springtime journey. It was the kind of peaceful start you dream of - but never quite manage at home. They spent their days exploring our private dog park, Scentral Bark - Duke dashed through tunnels, climbed tyre towers and dived nose-first into our doggy ball pit like a pup half his age.
