A doggy friendly day out!
Filming for “Discover Carmarthenshire” resident beagles Woody, Cookie & Oscar were asked to star in this mini movie of an epic doggy day out to show how doggy friendly the county is.
We started out at Llansteffan – one of the amazing dog friendly beaches that is very popular with our guests and their pups. Just 7 miles from Carmarthen (and a 35 minute drive from us) it is never busy and has the added bonus of a lovely walk up to a fabulous castle ruin which offers incredible views over the estuary and towards Ferryside, another dog friendly beach on the other side of the water.
Movie Mutts
It turned out being movie stars is hungry work so, in need of refreshment, we headed to The Black Lion, Abergorlech, one of several excellent dog friendly pubs we recommend in the area.
In a great location within the forest it offers super food and is perfectly placed for a bite to eat after one of the way marked walks nearby. If the weather is favourable the lovely beer garden, situated right next to the River Cothi, is an idyllic place to sink a glass of something refreshing.
Dog friendly Brechfa Forest
Pretty soon the beagles were raring to go again so, suitably replenished, we headed off to explore the stunning 18,000 acre Brechfa Forest. There are cattle grids at every entrance so, if you are confident with your dogs off-lead, you can let them roam to their hearts’ content without the fear of bumping into sheep. And, with the area being so quiet all year round, there’s a good chance you won’t bump into anyone else either!
Finally flagging after such a fun filled doggy day out a cup of tea was calling and so we headed back to The Old Bike Shed to put the kettle on. There’s nothing better than looking at the breathtaking views whilst relaxing with a hot Welsh brew in your hand. Unless there’s some wine to hand of course…
Dog friendly cottages
The Old Bike Shed sleeps 2 and is the smallest of our 3 cottages, all of which are stylishly decorated and offer everything you could need for a fabulous holiday. This romantic bolt hole is perfect for couples but is also favourable with solo guests – and their dogs of course.
